This is a consent form for research participation. It contains important information about this study and what to expect if you decide to participate. Your participation is voluntary.

 

Purpose: This research explores the various ways that community members aid immigrants, particularly during Operation Midway Blitz. It examines what makes for effective organizing and coalitions, and seeks insight into evolving methods of coordination among grassroots activists. It examines the broader social impacts of increased federal presence in neighborhood communities.

 

Procedures and Time Required: You will be asked to participate in one to two 30-minute in-person interviews. With your permission, the interviews will be audio-recorded.

 

Risks and Benefits: Your participation in this study does not involve any risk to you beyond that of your already established involvement in immigrant aid work. Taking part in this research study may not benefit you personally right now, but we may learn new things that could help others.

 

Confidentiality: Any and all data gathered during our interview will be recorded using deidentifiable pseudonyms and later coded to ensure anonymity. No personal identifying information will be recorded. If you decide to withdraw, data collected up until the point of withdrawal may still be included in the analysis. De-identified information from this study may be used for future research studies or shared with other researchers for future research without your additional informed consent.

Consent: Participation is voluntary. Refusal to participate or withdrawing from the research will involve no penalty or loss of benefits to which you might otherwise be entitled. You will be provided a copy of this form. Verbal consent to your interview and to possible recording is all that is required to participate. For example, I will ask, “Do you consent to be interviewed?” To which you may answer yes or no. If applicable, I will ask, “Do you consent to be recorded?” To switch you may say yes or no.
